Buddy White

A short remembrance:

Buddy came to us in February of 1996. We retrieved him from the Humane Society of Santa Barbara, and immediately felt we had been blessed to find him. Warm and loving and immediately devoted to us, we basked in his presence.

In July of this year he started having intestinal problems and refused to eat. Finally he was diagnosed with a large malignant prostate tumor. His digestive system briefly revived with prednisone, but when cancer medication was started he reverted to refusing to eat and never regained his appetite. The cancer started interfering with his bladder function and in his weakened state, there seemed nothing else to do. He quickly declined and the weekend of November 9-10 we knew he was short for this life. On Sunday, November 10 we took him to the ocean and for a ride in the car. He still enthused for life, weakly putting his head out the window. That night I slept in the side room with him and stroked and patted him as he took his last breaths.  Buddy was peaceful at the end and gave me one long last look before "passing in".

We miss him very much, but I thought people who knew him might enjoy some photos from his life. Since we also lost our friend Ralph this year I've included several of him also.

Buddy enjoyed time around the house, morning and evening walks and just being with us. Here he is with Shea.

He also greatly enjoyed motorhome trips.

"Don't leave us behind!" Ralph and Buddy pleaded as we prepared for a trip.

Best of buddies on the trips, they didn't always leave room for Dorene.
